A midday attack on a police station in Istanbul killed at least one officer, wounded several others and leaves people in Turkey pointing the figure at who is to blame. The police chief of Turkey's largest city said that a lone attacker first threw a grenade, then rushed forward into the entrance of the Sultangazi station, in a working class neighborhood, where he set off a suicide bomb that partially collapsed the front entrance of the building.

No one has claimed yet responsibility for the blast, but many are quick to accuse the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has decades fighting the Turkish government for autonomous Kurdish region, but is an officially designated terrorist organization by the U.S. and other countries. The PKK took responsibility for a similar attack in May, though their attacks have generally avoided the city of Istanbul.
