Vince Vaughn: Keep the 'Gay' Joke in Movie

Erik Hayden 28 Views Oct 15, 2010
The trailer of Vince Vaughn's latest comedy The Dilemma used to begin with this Vaughn quip: "Ladies and Gentlemen, electric cars are gay. I mean, not homosexual gay, but, you know, my parents are chaperoning the dance, gay." The joke outraged gay and lesbian groups who successfully lobbied Universal Pictures to cut the trailer's throwaway line. But Vaughn, dragging out the controversy, appears to suggest to Deadline Hollywood that the joke should still make the film's final cut:
"Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences, whatever those differences may be. Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together. Drawing dividing lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop."
The original trailer is below.
