New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg lost his mother on Sunday. Charlotte Bloomberg died at her home in Medford, Massachusetts at 102 years old. Bloomberg said in a statement that he and his sister Marjorie would remember their mother for her "unimpeachable integrity, fierce independence, and constant love." A New York Times retrospective on Bloomberg's relationship with his mother today noted that the mayor frequently worked her into speeches. Earlier this month, while announcing a plan to offer wireless Internet service in city parks, he used one of his favorite lines, “My mother remembers when the telephone came in,” and then last week, when asked about an education issue, he spoke about driving by his elementary school recently while visiting his mother. Fittingly, Bloomberg reportedly called his mother every day.
