Giffords Will Attend a Ceremony Marking Anniversary of Tuscon Shootings
After last week's release from the Texas hospital where she had been receiving treatment, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords returned with her husband, Mark Kelly, to Tucson over the weekend. There, she had a reunion with congressional staffers, toured a downtown area featuring notes of encouragement (and "Giffords for U.S. Senate" sign) and had a Father's Day breakfast with her family on Sunday. Both the Arizona Daily Star and The New York Times have accounts of the brief weekend trip, and details of her continued recovery.
As of now, relays the Star, Giffords is still unaware of the extent of the shootings--such as the death of staffer Gabe Zimmerman and federal Judge John Roll--and her family and friends "have been breaking news of the tragedy gradually." Her husband told the newspaper that she hasn't regained complete speaking ability but "as far as what she remembers and comprehends, at times I feel she's 100 percent." Giffords will be living with Kelly at his home in a Houston suburb.
