About 100 turtles who crawled out onto a runway at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport caused delays when the runway had to close for more than an hour this morning so that they could be removed. Jet Blue tweeted news of the delay, opening the hashtag #cantmakethisup. It also noted that the terrapins were "Diamondback Terrapins. Though... there are rumors some of the turtles are of the ninja variety/subspecies." Diamondbacks live in Jamaica Bay, which surrounds JFK. If this episode has taught us anything it's that a group of turtles is called a bale. And this bale now has its own, inevitable Twitter feed.
