Kitty Lambert and Cheryle Rudd became one of the first, if not the first, same-sex couples to wed in New York State shortly after midnight on Sunday at Niagara Falls, according to the New York Times. It was 12 years to the day after their first date, and they have been engaged since 2000.

Ms. Lambert made her own dress, a studded satin azure number that she finished seven hours before the reception. “I feel like a giant blueberry,” she said as she tried it on. Ms. Rudd wore a white tuxedo, with tennis shoes to match. “Do I look stupid?” she asked.
