Whitey Bulger's Girlfriend Won't Have to Testify Against Him After Guilty Plea
Alleged former mobster James "Whitey" Bulger pleaded not guilty to nineteen counts of murder during his arraignment at the U.S. District Court in Boston Wednesday afternoon. CBS noted that Bulger was "formally responding to criminal charges for the first time in nearly two decades," following his capture last month in Santa Monica after sixteen years on the run from authorities.
According to the Boston Globe, both of Bulger's brothers attended the arraignment, and he entered the not guilty pleas "in a clear voice that was soft and just above a whisper and was closely watched by some of the relatives he is accused of murdering."
Bulger is next due to appear in court September 14.
