An Alabama judge has temporarily put legislation on hold that would crack down on Alabama's illegal immigration, reports The Associated Press. The judge "ruled Monday that she needed more time to decide whether the law opposed by the Obama administration, church leaders and immigrant-rights groups is constitutional." She hasn't ruled out the possibility that the law aligns with the Constitution, but she has just requested more time to review all of the lawsuits that have been filed by the Justice Department, individuals, and private groups. 

Those who oppose the law, who have compared it to Jim Crow-esque laws, took today as a victory, even though the judge has yet to make her decision. If the legislation holds up, Alabama would have the toughest immigration laws in the country, including "requir[ing] schools to verify the citizenship status of students," the AP notes.
