Planned Parenthood Goes Bollywood to Celebrate New Birth Control Guidelines

Earlier this week the Department Human Health Services announced that all private insurance plans will be required to cover women's preventative services--including birth control--without a co-pay or deductible. For groups that believe women should have greater access to contraceptives, the new guidelines are most definitely cause for celebration. And rejoice these groups have.

Planned Parenthood, which calls the new ruling a victory for women, has put out this curious celebratory YouTube video. In Bollywood fashion, the dancers, dressed in traditional Indian garb, are performing a celebratory line-number, with a giant dancing birth control pack as the center-piece of the show.

We're not quite sure why they chose the Bollywood theme, but a giant dancing birth control case makes sense--she looks quite liberated, happy to be free from the shackles of co-pays and deductibles.

Along with the video, Planned Parenthood has a more low-key celebration, urging viewers to thank HHS for removing the financial barrier. The Women's Media Center is doing similarly and NARAL has issued a press release "commending" the Obama Administration.

Of course, not everyone feels the need to rejoice, as we reported a few weeks ago: religious and pro-life groups don't think the government should mandate that private insurance completely cover contraception.
