An earthquake in Alaska's Aleutian Islands led to a brief tsunami warning early on Friday, but about two hours after the temblor, officials dropped the alarm as only a small wave was recorded in Atka, Alaska. The quake, which hit southeast of Atka at 6:55 a.m. Eastern time, was just 6.2 miles deep, according to CNN via USA Today's updating report. The relatively shallow depth meant it could potentially do some damage, but it struck in a sparsely populated area. The United States Geological Survey initially put the magnitude at 7.1, but at 9 a.m. downgraded it to 6.8.
