It was a disturbing evening for supporters of convicted murderer Troy Davis following his execution by Georgia authorities Wednesday night. As demonstrators broke into tears following the 11:08 p.m. pronouncement of his death, an outpouring of support via Twitter streamed in from around the world. Though Davis's attorneys said seven of the nine key witnesses disputed parts of their testimony accusing him of killing Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene. "I am innocent," Davis said shortly before he died, according to the Associated Press. "All I can ask ... is that you look deeper into this case so that you really can finally see the truth. I ask my family and friends to continue to fight this fight." MacPhail's mother said, "I'm kind of numb. I can't believe that it's really happened." She rejected his claims of innocence. "He's been telling himself that for 22 years. You know how it is, he can talk himself into anything."
