If the Occupy Wall Street protesters camping in New York's Zuccotti Park do pick up their things and leave on Friday, they'll be able to come back but their things must stay out. That's what New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told the New York Post on Thursday afternoon, following Mayor Michael Bloomberg's announcement Thursday morning that the protesters would have to leave the park so a crew could come in and clean it. "People will have to remove all their belongings and leave the park," Kelly told the Post. "After it’s cleaned, they’ll be able to come back. But they won’t be able to bring back the gear, the sleeping bags, that sort of thing will not be able to be brought back into the park." Police officers passed out fliers listing the rules occupiers would have to follow after their ouster. Occupy Wall Street, for its part, has asked New Yorkers to call the city and ask Bloomberg not to clear the park. "'Cleaning' was used as a pretext to shut down 'Bloombergville' a few months back, and to shut down peaceful occupations elsewhere," read a message on the encampment's website. Protesters have promised to clean the park themselves, and according to the Post some have already started sweeping and picking up trash.
