A huge storm brought the first snowfall of the season to Colorado knocking out power to thousands and laying the groundwork for the coming ski season. Downed power lines affected about 150,000 home and businesses yesterday and town across the state opening shelters for those caught in the freezing temperatures.

Up to two feet of the white stuff could fall in this storm, which is actually a good thing for the region. A light winter in the Rockies last year helped contribute to the drought conditions in the Southwest and Texas this summer. Some areas around Denver got more snow yesterday than than the entire average for October.

Meanwhile, parts of New England and upstate New York are seeing white flakes in the forecast for the first time Thursday. That's all for fall, folks.

Warmer temperatures are expected this weekend, but fall is never quite the same once that first cold snap hits. The days only get shorter from here and now we know that Summer isn't coming back.
