Update 6:24 p.m. The Chronicle now reports that it was actually a gunman who was shot by police, according to a university spokesman. The man was alive when he was taken to the hospital, the paper reports and the spokesman said students are no longer in danger.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that one person was shot and a suspect is in custody on the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Campus. A spokeperson for the school confirmed the reports for the local ABC affiliate. There are no reports yet of the shooting victim's injuries. Occupy Oakland protesters had been planning a march to the Berkeley campus today to join demonstrations there, notes the San Jose Mercury News, but there is not any link between the shooting and protest at this time.
