Head of Drone Company Asks Why You're So Worried About Drones
We don't mean to scare you, but the ACLU certainly does with 13-pages of startling details (PDF) about how the threat of "routine aerial surveillance of American life" is real. The document is well-sourced and pretty accessible for even non-privacy experts as it explains everything from how the Federal Aviation Administration is (or isn't) updating regulations to take drones into account and a good old fashioned review of what the Fourth Amendment means. The New York Times's Somini Sengupta highlights this quote: "the technology is quickly becoming cheaper and more powerful, interest in deploying drones among police departments is increasing, and our privacy laws are not strong enough to ensure that the new technology will be used responsibly and consistently with democratic values." Again, not to scare you or anything.
