Amid a flurry of resignations, a website hack, and national uproar over the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation's decision to cut off Planned Parenthood, its founder, Nancy Brinker, told reporters  last night that the decision had nothing to do with abortions.

"You have to be sure you are granting to the right people," she said on the media call last night which The Los Angeles Times reported. Brinker added, "Our position has been lost... Our only mission is to design treatments and cures for this disease and to take care of women in need of services." If that sounds familiar, it's because Brinker's lines follow the "mission" speak and internal memos that The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg posted yesterday. And going by those terms, she's technically right. Komen's new rules prohibit the foundation from giving grants to organizations under local, state or federal investigations. And currently, Planned Parenthood is under a congressional investigation by Republican Rep. Cliff Stearns who is looking into whether Planned Parenthood used federal funding for abortions. "We've always had the right to cancel contracts," Brinker also said.
