George Zimmerman's Defense Team Should Probably Stop Talking

George Zimmerman is not an infant. But that glaring fact did not stop his newly-hired defense lawyer from using "Shaken Baby Syndrome" defense on CBS' This Morning.  "We're familiar with the Shaken Baby Syndrome," Hal Uhrig (video below), the latest addition to Zimmerman's defense team told Charlie Rose and company this morning. "You shake a baby, the brain shakes around inside the skull. You can die."

We understand he was trying to make a point about self-defense and the allegation that Martin was pounding Zimmerman's head into the pavement. But, shaken babies (Uhrig also mentions actress Natasha Richardson's cause of death)? Props go to the team at Reuters, who actually cross-referenced Uhrig's shaken baby connection with Zimmerman's injuries: "But characteristic injuries associated with SBS, as Shaken Baby Syndrome is known, include bleeding in the brain. There are often no visible external signs such injuries have occurred."

This Morning was the latest media stop for the Uhrig. The former police officer and Florida assistant attorney general stopped by a Fox affiliate yesterday, blaming Trayvon Martin's death on Martin (with no blame going the way of his client, who allegedly pursued Martin despite a 911 dispatcher's command):

It's because that 6-foot-3 young man made a terrible decision and a bad judgment when he decided to smack somebody in the face and break their nose, jump on them and smack their head into the ground, and in doing that, put him in reasonable fear for his safety ... He was absolutely entitled to defend himself and that's why Trayvon Martin is dead, not because of racial profiling.

Uhrig may be saying too much, which seems to be a common affliction of George Zimmerman's defenders. It is, however, an upgrade over asserting that "f--king goons" is a term of affection.
