For a springtime art project, a pair of Google employees mapped the realtime wind patterns of the United States -- and in doing so, try to drive home the point it's about time the U.S. got serious about wind power. Data visualizers Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg published the animated map on their personal site. It shows winds using data from the National Digital Forecast Database, and the pair hope it raises awareness of the "invisible, ancient source of energy surrounds us," so that more wind turbines will be built. The static screencap doesn't do their work justice, so click over to their site and be mesmerized for a few moments and see exactly which the way wind is blowing in your town.
