Confession Scrawled on Etan Patz's Photo Will Become Iconic Evidence
The New York Times is reporting that Pedro Hernandez, the suspect police had arrested in the Etan Patz case yesterday was admitted to the hospital today and placed on suicide watch. The Times' William K Rashbaum reports:
Pedro Hernandez, the former bodega worker arrested on Thursdayand accused of killing Etan Patz in 1979, was held overnight Thursday under a suicide watch and transferred to Bellevue Hospital Center early Friday morning, an official briefed on the matter said. ...
He was under the constant observation of a police sergeant until 5:30 a.m., when he was transferred to Bellevue, the official said.
Yesterday New York Police announced that Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday and were expressing "a cautious optimism" that they had solved the 33-year-old murder and disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz. Hernandez's arrest spurred news outlets to declare the mystery "solved."
It should be noted that today marks 33 years to the day that Etan Patz disappeared.
We'll have more details as the news comes in.
