Today in Sports: The Fortnight gets underway, Tony Parker nearly loses and eye, and the dumbest trade offer ever.

• Wimbledon got underway today and has already lost its first big name, as five-time champion Venus Williams was bounced in straight sets by Elena Vesnina. It was the first time Venus lost in the first round at the tournament since 1997. Other top seeds Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer advanced easily. [AP]
• Speaking of Wimbledon, The New York Times takes a look at the groundskeepers who must maintain the famous grass courts (which are typically ruined by two weeks of constant use) not just for this year's tournament, but for the Olympic tennis tournament that starts just three weeks after the Grand Slam event ends. • San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker says he nearly lost his left eye after being injured in the nightclub brawl between the entourages of Drake and Chris Brown. A shard of glass apparently penetrated Parker's left eye, scratching his cornea and required surgery to remove. Parker has been unable to leave his hotel for eight days to avoid infection and has been suffering from hallucinations ever since. If Parker's eye doesn't fully heal by next month, he may miss the Olympics. [AP]
• Unbelievable factoid of the day: During the NHL Draft this weekend, the New York Islanders offered the Columbus Blue Jackets seven picks (their entire 2012 draft) to move up just two spots for a shot at taking highly coverted prospect Ryan Murray. Even more unbelievable: The Blue Jackets turned them down, so that they could have Murray all to themselves. So what was almost the dumbest trade of all time will now be known as the dumbest non-trade of all-time. (No offense to Ryan Murray, who we are sure is a find gentleman.) [Columbus Dispatch]
• NBC will actually be airing coverage of the U.S. Olympic Swimming trails in prime time tonight. Why? Well, Michael Phelps is back and he expects to be challenged by Ryan Lochte in the 400-meter Individual Medley. The two swimmers were 1-2 in the preliminaries. [SBNation]
