Aurora, Colorado, shooting suspect James Holmes was just formally charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder, 116 counts of attempted murder, one count of criminal violence, and one count of possession of an explosive device. He did not enter a plea.

The 24 murder counts are actually 12 counts of first-degree murder, plus 12 counts of murder with extreme indifference, making two counts for each victim. That also accounts for the 116 attempted murder counts, two for each of the 58 people who was shot and wounded.

Attorneys were also apparently debating a motion to learn who leaked information about a package that Holmes reportedly sent to his psychiatrist. The package allegedly contained a notebook that included descriptions of the attack. Defense attorneys are upset that details of that package was released to the news media by law enforcement.

Cameras and recording devices were not allowed in the courtroom during this hearing, but one CNN correspondent said Holmes demeanor was similar to his first appearance when he appeared dazed and drowsy for much of the hearing.
