With the federal minimum wage at $7.25, it now takes more than an hour of working to buy two gallons of gas at the average nationwide price of $3.77 per gallon. While the comparison, which comes to us via Politico's Dylan Byers, shows just how high gas prices are now, Tuesday's average price of a gallon is actually down 9 cents from last month's level, Christopher S. Rugaber of Associated Press explained. The minimum wage was last raised in July 2009 when the average price of a gallon of gas was around $2.60.
