Details are slowly emerging about an unsettling incident involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, his girlfriend and a morning full of violence. According to the Kansas City Star, Belcher shot his girlfriend multiple times this morning, while her mother watched, and then drove to the team's practice facility at Arrowhead Stadium, where he shot and killed himself.

It's unclear what sparked the incident earlier this morning and exactly what happened at the stadium. Reports say that Belcher attracted attention from stadium security when he parked "oddly." A phalanx of teammates and coaches, including general manager Scott Pioli, approached the car to find Belcher sitting inside with a gun to his head. BuzzFeed reports that Belcher "thanked them for everything they'd all done for him" and then pulled the trigger. Police say that Belcher was in a car with a gun to his head and talking to his coaches when they arrived.

The 25-year-old Belcher was a four-year veteran of the Chiefs, who have the worst record of any team in the NFL. In a brief statement, the team said simply, "We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation." So far, they're still set to play the Caroline Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
