All the News That's Fit for 'Law & Order': Giffords, Sheen and Spidey
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, herself a victim of a mass shooting, will attend a very small, closed meeting with families of Newtown victims in the town on Friday.
A Connecticut lieutenant governor's spokesperson told the Associated Press, NBC Connecticut, and Reuters that Giffords will attend a private event Friday afternoon for families of the shooting victims. The spokesperson told the AP the visit was "planned but not confirmed." Her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, would also be in attendance. Other details surrounding the event are unclear right now, except that the event will be closed to the media. Thursday was the first day back to school for students in Newtown.
Giffords is no stranger to the grief caused by a random act of violence, She retired from politics last year after her horrific shooting by Jared Loughner. Now that her former seat in the House has been won by her hand-picked successor, she's free to focus solely on her own road to recovery. Thankfully, she's using that time to help these people, too.
