Update 2:42 p.m.: The Associated Press reports the NYPD have identified a suspect, 44-year-old Julio Acevedo, in connection with the crash. Authorities initially believed there was a passenger in the car with Acevado, but they now believe he was alone.

Original: On Sunday, the story of a miracle baby born after his parents were killed in a hit-and-run in New York City played with the heartstrings of a city, a religious enclave, and maybe the entire Internet. Our faith in humanity was briefly restored, until Monday morning, when a Hasidic community spokesman revealed the baby has passed away

A young couple active in Brooklyn's Hasidic community, Nachman and Raizel Glauber, both 21 years old, were travelling by livery cab on their way to the hospital just after midnight Sunday because, at seven months pregnant, Raizel was experiencing some pains in her stomach. Suddenly, a BMW driver plowed into the cab carrying the Glaubers, and their unborn child,. Doctors were able to deliver the infant by Caesarean section after his parents were transported to nearby hospitals. The baby was alive, but in serious condition. The young couple didn't survive the crash. The BMW driver and his passenger did survice and fled the scene on foot. They are still at large

The inspiring story of the miracle hit-and-run baby was everywhere, with long stories in The New York Times, the Post, and the Daily News — and many other websites thereafter. But the miracle hit-and-run baby restoring our faith in humanity has passed away, the spokesman told multiple papers. So, feel free to add a little whiskey to your morning coffee. Do whatever it is you need to do. We all need to take the edge off somehow.
