#23 Nicholas Kristof

The New York Times

Nicholas Kristof is an op-ed columnist for The New York Times. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes. More information

Under datelines from some of the world's most troubled states, Kristof focuses on human-rights and public-health issues. He visited Iraq before the invasion, which he opposed, and he has frequently visited Southeast Asia to write about sex trafficking. His reporting from the Tiananmen Square riots of 1989 earned him and his wife, reporter Sheryl WuDunn, a Pulitzer Price for international reporting.

The New Yorker’s Jeffrey Toobin has praised Kristof’s "moral conscience" and called him "the Indiana Jones of our generation of journalists." Kristof’s determination to form his worldviews out in the field rather than behind a desk keeps him busy all over the globe, and has spawned an annual contest, "Win a Trip With Nick Kristof"; the winners have traveled to such countries as the Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.

Cancer From the Kitchen?

What if breast cancer in the United States has less to do with insurance or mammograms and more to do with contaminants in our water or air -- or in certain plastic containers in our kitchens?
