Why Valerie Jarrett Could Be Next

Mara Gay Sep 8, 2009
Amid the aftershocks of the Van Jones scandal, many are wondering "Who's next?" Conservatives are on the hunt for more targets to put on the chopping block, and Michelle Malkin and The American Spectator have Valerie Jarrett--Obama's special adviser and friend--in their sights. They report that she have played a key role in bringing Van Jones on board in the White House, citing this as proof that Jarrett is pushing a far-left agenda in the White House. Now they're calling for her head, too.

Their reasons for wanting to give Jarret the boot?
  • Jarrett Is An Anti-American Radical, says The Prowler at The American Spectator. He says Jarrett was personally involved in hiring Jones. "Jarrett interviewed Jones for the position," he writes. "In speeches before far-left groups over the past five months, Jarrett touted Jones's hiring, in part, because the groups, many of which count 9/11 truthers and radical environmentalists and anti-capitalists as members, were familiar with Jones's brand of anti-Americanism and economic radicalism."
  • Valerie Jarrett, Obama's Race-Baiting Fairy Godmother, Michelle Malkin charges. Malkin says Jarrett is, "the self-proclaimed keeper of Obama's urban/racial 'authenticity.'" And she argues that her role in the Jones hiring was unacceptable. Malkin cites a quote from Jarrett in which the adviser says her team was, "so delighted to be able to recruit him to the White House."
  • Does Valerie Jarrett Think 9/11 Trutherism Is An Acceptable Point Of View? asks Erick Erickson at Red State. "Valerie Jarrett overruled objections raised by the White House Counsel's Office and insisted Van Jones be put in that spot. Jarrett has been a cheerleader of Jones for a while, as has Michelle Obama."
