Morning Vid: 'Bunning Broke the Stalemate... and My Heart.'

Jake Simpson Mar 4, 2010
Jim Bunning took heavy fire from liberals and conservatives alike for his single-handed holdup of a bill extending unemployment benefits. The Republican senator earned near-universal scorn for his many sins (covered here and here), so everyone was relieved when Bunning finally relented and dropped his objection. Everyone, that is, except satirist Stephen Colbert.

The Comedy Central host mourned the end of Bunning's obstructionist tactics, lamenting: "Once again, I have been let down by a man." Devastated, Colbert rebuked Bunning for ending his 'principled' blockade.
I'm sure it was hard to be universally reviled as a half-witted, egomaniacal sociopath. But doing the right thing is never easy.
