Morning Vid: Karl Rove Loses His Cool

Jake Simpson Mar 22, 2010
Karl Rove is a master at keeping his cool. The GOP master-strategist and Wall Street Journal columnist keeps his emotions in check when debating top Democrats over health care. But David Plouffe, Obama's former campaign manager, is a mean political heavyweight himself. He succeeded at rankling Rove with an offhand comment at the end of a contentious debate on ABC's This Week. After Rove predicted heavy losses for congressional Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections, Plouffe snarkily recalled a legendary gaffe of George W. Bush.
Karl and a lot of Republicans want to call the election all over. They ought to break out that Mission Accomplished banner they put on the USS Abraham Lincoln, OK?
The comment infuriated the usually unflappable Rove, who launched into a heated denunciation of Plouffe while the host attempted to wrap up the segment. "That is cheesy, David," he fumed. "You should not denigrate the mission of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln like you just did."
