

In my opinion the damage had already been done by it being out there. People that I knew had seen (the ad), so it had gotten around ... [The suit] is not about politics ... It's about copyright and about the fact that it does imply that I would have licensed it and endorsed him and whatever he stands for.This seems to be a lesson that's hard for the GOP to learn. Less than a year ago, Jackson Browne successfully sued John McCain for illegally using Running on Empty during his 2008 presidential campaign.
Meanwhile, what happened to Byrne? In such elegant words, he always told us "Don't Worry About the Government." His 1977 lyrics reveal a happier, more civic friendly artist:
I see the states, across this big nation
I see the laws made in Washington, D.C.
I think of the ones I consider my favorites
I think of the people that are working for me
Some civil servants are just like my loved ones
They work so hard and they try to be strong
