Biden vs. Custard Vendor

John Hudson 91 Views Jun 28, 2010
It's always amusing when simple photo-ops go awry, especially when they involve the Vice President. On Saturday, Joe Biden was in Milwaukee to talk about job creation, and during the trip he made an appearance at Kopp's Frozen Custard. He mistook the place for a mere ice cream shop (something the employees quickly corrected him on) and got into a short tiff with the store manager:

"What do we owe ya?" asked Biden after taking a few licks of frozen custard.

"Don't worry, it's on us," replied the store manager. "Lower our taxes and we'll call it even."

With the local TV cameras rolling, Biden gave the custard vendor a piece of his mind. "Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smart ass all the time?"

Speaking later to reporters, the manager said he was "just joking around" and it was "shocking" to hear Biden react that way.

I guess that little comment kind of set him off... I was thrown by it. I wasn't expecting that, especially from, you know, the No. 2 in charge of our country.
Of course, the frivolous incident inspired heated commentary in the blogosphere.
