It's a widely-known fact that nothing good has ever come from a politician speaking extemporaneously about race, the Middle East, or religions other than his own. That didn't stop Tennessee Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey from telling voters his opinion on the plan to build a 52,000-sq. ft. Islamic Center in Murfreesboro, TN. The word "cult" figured in his response to a question about how to respond to the "threat that's invading our country from the Muslims." (Skip ahead to around 3:11.) From the transcript at Think Progress:

I've been trying to learn about Sharia Law, I've been trying to learn about what's going on; it is not good if that's what's going on. You could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion or is it a nationality, way of life, or cult, whatever you want to call it. But we do protect our religions, but this is something we're going to have to face.
