Debt Deal Could Slash Hundreds of Billions From Pentagon Budget
The political world was caught off-guard Tuesday by Richard Daley's announcement that he would not seek a fourth term as Chicago mayor. If Daley's out, who's in? What about White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who told interviewer Charlie Rose earlier this year that the mayor's office "has always been an aspiration of mine"? On Twitter, users weighed in on a potential Emanuel candidacy, and even suggested a few alternatives:
Rahm Emanuel now aloft and Chicago-bound in Balloon Boy device hidden under Rose Garden shrubbery.
oprah's retiring after this season, right? could she run. it would make a crowded field with her, rahm, burris. blago, ditka and alan keyes
How many more Daleys are there in the pipeline? I assume these guys are procreating...
Alan Keyes for Mayor of Chicago. In your heart, you know he has a birth certificate.
I'm for Ozzie Guillen as mayor of Chicago.
Harold Ford moving to Chicago.
Is there some reason to believe the voters of Chicago are eager to elect Rahm Emanuel?
run blago run
.@mikeallen @jmartpolitico Seriously, what does a Chicago Mayor whose name is Richard Daley move on to? Taking all nominations...
Barack Obama is president because winning the White House was easier than unseating Mayor Daley. So this is big news.
