GOP Casting Call Misspells 'John Deer'

Ray Gustini Oct 7, 2010
The leaked GOP casting call requesting "hicky" actors to appear in a West Virginia campaign ad has been criticized as dismissive and mean-spirited. But the more one reads of the memo unearthed by Politico's Mike Allen, the more one realizes the appeal for down-home faces might have been an honest attempt to capture some of that authentic Appalachian character national Republicans have heard so much about. Take this list of clothing suggestions included in the memo.
• Jeans
• Work boots
• Flannel shirt
• Denim shirt
• Dickie's type jacket with t-shirt underneath
• Down filled vest
John Deer hats (not brand new, preferably beat up)
• Trucker hats (not brand new, preferably beat up)
• No Thin Stripes
Great ideas, one and all. Except it's spelled John Deere.
