With the rise of politicians like Sarah Palin who are otherwise closed off from the press, social media services have been transformed from mere outreach tools to documents of public record. Every tweet, even those about matters as trivial as tanning taxes, is subject to scrutiny. So when Sarah Pompei, press secretary for Meg Whitman, tweets a link to a person in a pink princess costume rocking out to Japanese pop music on a bass guitar, one must wonder what exactly is going on inside Whitman's gubernatorial campaign.
