Heath Shuler Can't Beat Nancy Pelosi, Declares Heath Shuler

Ray Gustini Nov 15, 2010

If Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina upsets Nancy Pelosi to become minority leader, it will come as a surprise to at least one Democratic lawmaker: Rep. Heath Shuler. The (bad) NFL quarterback-turned-Blue Dog Democrat made it clear on CNN's State of the Union yesterday that not even he believes he has the votes to thwart the soon-to-be former Speaker's bid to remain in leadership.

"If it comes down to this coming week and she doesn't step aside, I will challenge her," said Shuler.

He continued, "[But] I can add and subtract pretty well. I don't have the numbers to win."

Your move, Madame Speaker.
