It Takes A Male Speaker for Lady Lawmakers to Get Toilet Equality

Elspeth Reeve Dec 2, 2010

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner is ordering the construction of a women's bathroom that will be as close to the House floor as the men's room. For years, female lawmakers have had to walk either downstairs or through several halls to find a restroom, while their male colleagues' facilities were next door.

"This is good news for everyone except one person. The House Parliamentarian's office adjacent to the legislative floor will disappear to make way for the new bathroom stalls," the Los Angeles Times' Andrew Malcolm reports.
