MSNBC's Joe Scarborough Might Run for Office Again

Elspeth Reeve Dec 30, 2010

Joe Scarborough says he might seek public office again if he sees an "absence of leadership," Parade's David Browne reports. That would be his second tour as a public servant for the MSNBC host, who was a Florida congressman in the 1990s. Scarborough says his wife won't let him reenter the "blood sport" of politics, he might have to lobby her to reconsider "if Washington continues to fumble issues."

When the Huffington Post reported that Scarborough had considered running on an independent presidential ticket with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the cable news anchor shot the story down. But Scarborough joked to Browne, "If someone could figure out which one of us has the capacity to be vice president, I'd like that person to explain it. I've been around Mayor Bloomberg, and people who've been around me would laugh at the notion that either of us [could settle for being second-in-command]."

  • Here Comes Superman, Gawker's Jim Newell writes. "Obviously if he ran for anything, the country would be saved within minutes."
  • Couldn't Stand Being Vice President? Dan Riehl asks, incredulously. "Dude, you're currently third banana behind frickin' Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow. I'm thinking VP may be just a bit above your pay grade, no matter who tops some hypothetical ticket."
  • There Must Be Dozens Eager to Vote for Scarborough Again, The National Review's Jim Geraghty guesses. Referring to Scarborough's involvement with Bloomberg's nonpartisan group dedicated to niceness, No Labels, Geraghty writes, "It’s interesting that Scarborough calls his own debates civil, because, you know, that’s a label, and I thought he opposed those."
