House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a trip to Rome but has since been released. The Democrat was scheduled to visit with the Italian defense minister and the leader of the country's lower house of parliament Monday when she began feeling "slightly unwell," Agence France Presse reports. After a few tests, Pelosi returned to her hotel, Rep. Bill Pascrell, part of the same congressional delegation, told NBC News' Luke Russert. “She's fine, she's in good shape," he said.

Pelosi and other members of Congress were in Kabul over the weekend to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Pascrell called that trip strenuous but productive.

Update: Pelosi's office has issued this statement:

After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well. This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital. The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy.
