Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine is running for Senate in Virginia, The New York Times' Paul Volpe reports. Kaine hopes to replace Sen. Jim Webb, a Democrat and one-termer by choice. Kaine was a popular governor in the state, and President Obama is pretty keen on him, too.

Kaine will likely be campaigning against George Allen, the Republican Webb unseated in 2006 after Allen made a series of racially-tinged remarks.
