Have you ever wondered about the people who make government work? No, not politicians, the people behind the politicians? As part of its "Hill Issue," National Journal interviewed over 300 top Congressional staffers to figure out just who, exactly, these people are. What they discovered is that, despite hailing from all over the country, they're demographically pretty similar to each other. 93 percent of them are white and 68 percent of them are male. Interestingly, this homogeneity within the upper echelons of Congressional staffers has actually increased by 2 percent since the last survey was taken in 2009. 51 percent of these staffers also got their undergraduate degrees at private colleges, Georgetown being the most popular.
