Romney Plays for Laughs in New Hampshire

Mitt Romney was posing for a photo with a handful of waitresses Tuesday when he jumped, startled, and yipped, "Oh my goodness!" as though one of the women had touched his butt, Politico's Maggie Haberman reports. It was a joke, but the falsely accused waitress said, "I would never do that." Apparently the presidential candidate was referring to a similar incident at a fundraiser four years ago, when Romney himself was framed as being grabby. "I was just teasing the girls," Romney said today.

The fake butt cupping happened at Mary Ann's diner in Derry, New Hampshire. Romney had also brought his humor to another Derry eatery, Blake's Restaurant, earlier that day, and was perhaps feeling confident in his joke-telling skills. The Washington Post's Philip Rucker reports Romney got laughs from two out of three voters for this joke:

“I saw the young man over there with eggs Benedict, with hollandaise sauce with the eggs there,” Romney said. “And I was going to suggest to you that you serve your eggs with hollandaise sauce in hubcaps. Because there’s no place like chrome for the holidays.”
