The Senate was super psyched about the idea of Leon Panetta running the Pentagon--it unanimously confirmed him earlier this month. But at his swearing-in as Secretary of Defense Friday morning, Panetta himself didn't look all that excited about it, as Wired's Spencer Ackerman notes.

But maybe Panetta always looks a little sad-hound dog-ish? Actually no. Check out this warm smile:

Those were the days. That's ole Leon back in January 1993, during his confirmation hearings to become then-President-elect Bill Clinton's director of the Office of Management and Budget--Panetta's very first job in the executive branch. Poor guy, he didn't know what was coming. Clearly, now he does.
