Poll: More People Disapprove of Republicans in Stalled Debt Talks
The new Washington Post/ABC News poll confirms debate fatigue: the public doesn't think any of the D.C. power brokers are compromising enough as the debt dilemma ticks down to an August 2 reckoning. But, just as in a CBS News heat check poll released Monday, Republican leaders are taking the brunt of the ill-will from Americans: 77 percent of those polled think that the GOP are "not willing enough to compromise" compared to 58 percent for the president. A "combination" of approaches was also the most agreeable solution to the public--rather than only cutting spending or increasing taxes. And in tallying up the all-important blame assignment: If a potential deals fall apart, 42 percent think it would be the GOP's fault and 36 percent would hold Obama responsible.
