For a city not famous for it's style or attractive bodies, The Hill's annual "50 Most Beautiful People" list is a reliably embarrassing (but widely-read) staple of the Washington media diet. This year's list includes congressional staffers, members of Congress, and journalists with cutesy bios for each D.C. demigod. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's, for instance, notes, "It’s in Alaska, however, where she’s really in her element. Her online photo gallery shows her in pink fleece and hiking boots, sitting on an overturned bucket while feeding bears at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and flashing a smile underneath a ski hat, wrapped in a flowing fur coat at the 39th Annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.” Rival Politico does the numbers on party affiliation: "The list has 26 Republicans, 16 Democrats, 3 Nonpartisans, 2 Independents, 1 Centrist, 1 “Not Republican,” and 1 “GOProud Conservative.” Tea Party hero Rep. Marco Rubio (ranked No. 23) was one of the few beautiful personages who declined The Hill's interview requests. Check out the barrage of buttoned-up DC life here.
