President Obama spoke briefly from the Rose Garden today a little after 2 p.m. to address the reported death of Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi. "This marks the end of a long and painful chapter for the people of Libya," he said. He pointed out the success of U.S. forces in bringing about the end of the regime with minimal entanglement. "Without a single U.S. service member on the ground, we achieved our objective," he said. Still, he emphasized that, "the Libyan people rose up and demanded their freedom. Today is a momentous day in the history of Libya." Obama didn't take questions from reporters at the end of the speech.
