After getting an endorsement from New Hampshire's Union Leader paper Sunday morning, a new video is circulating of an interview showing Bill Clinton offering some praise for his old foe and current Republican hopeful.

In an excerpt of an interview with Newsmax released Saturday evening, but just making the rounds Sunday, Clinton said that Gingrich is, "articulate and he tries to think of a conservative version of an idea that will solve a legitimate problem.” Clinton credited Newt's rise in the polls as legitimate Republican contender to his strong performance in the Republican debates. There were two ideas of Gingrich's from Tuesday's debate that Clinton said impressed him: his "red card" immigration option, and giving workers the option to invest Social Security checks privately. These ideas, according to Clinton, could make, "an independent voter say, ‘Well, I gotta consider that.’" After Newt's big New Hampshire endorsement this morning, Clinton's words can't be the most welcome news for the Gingrich campaign.

In his letter endorsing Newt in the Union Leader, publisher Joseph McQuaid wrote of Newt's ability to "provide" politically when he said, "He did it in bringing in the first Republican House in 40 years and by forging balanced budgets and even a surplus despite the political challenge of dealing with a Democratic President." That Democratic President was, of course, Bill Clinton. Gingrich served as the Speaker of the House after the 1994 elections while Clinton was still President.
