Former President George H.W. Bush told the Houston Chronicle today that Mitt Romney is "the best choice for us," adding (rather diplomatically) that he isn't Newt Gingrich's "biggest advocate." "I like Perry, but he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere; he’s not surging forward," he told the paper. The choice isn't really surprising at all; the two are friendly, and personalities from his administration including his chief of staff Jon Sununu and his vice president Dan Quayle have already joined the Romney fanclub. Still, it's gotta be better than not having the endorsement of a former president. The Chronicle notes that Bush's lack of support for Gingrich is interesting given he worked with him back in the day, but then, that's pretty much how everyone who worked with Gingrich back in the day feels about him now
