The Absurd Fantasy of Conservatives Embracing Hillary Clinton
A group trying to draft Hillary Clinton to run for president started making pre-recorded "robocalls" to voters on Monday with a pitch that paints a goofily optimistic picture of the world in which Clinton won the 2008 election. The Huffington Post's Sam Stein posted the script for the phone calls:
America would be better off today if Hillary Clinton was our president. The Wall Street robber barons would be jailed, young people could afford college and find jobs and six million homeowners wouldn't face foreclosure. We need to change our course. Please sign our petition to draft Hillary Clinton for president.
Politico reports that the group, called "Run Hillary 2012" remains anonymous, but a note on the bottom of its website says "A project of the 99%" which explains their focus on "robber barons" and jobs for young people. If that's the best of their pitch though, count us skeptical that they'll see much success this election, not least because it's just not that convincing an alternative reality. Clinton did, after all, have incredibly similar positions to Obama during the campaign, so it's hard to imagine the country would really be in all that different a place. Maybe it's all just a big conspiracy to sow seeds of discord among Democrats run by famous Clinton 2012 supporter Dick Cheney.
