President Obama swung through New York City on a fundraising tour on Thursday that included an impromptu singing performance on the stage of the Apollo Theater. After mentioning that legendary crooner Al Green was in the house, Obama broke into a few quick bars of Green's hit "Let's Stay Together." Granted it was only one line, but politics aside, that's not a bad impression of the Reverend Green. As the President pointed out, he wasn't booed off the stage by the notoriously tough crowd or swept away by the theater's famous "Sandman."
As for the politics part.... the President reportedly raised more than $3 million for his re-election campaign in just one afternoon and evening. In addition to his Apollo visit, his four Manhattan stops yesterday included a $36,000-per-ticket appearance at the home of director Spike Lee.
